The Impact of Light

"The light of the sun travels ninety-three million miles to reach the earth, where it is absorbed into the system of a tiny flower, transformed by photosynthesis into the energy of growth, and expressed once again in the radiant beauty of the unfolding blossom. Indeed, at times the color of a blooming flower is so intense and vital that there can be no doubt that God is present. Just so, the aspirant who has contacted the source of illumination is constantly touching everything in his life, at every level, with the light of this light. He reveals the presence of God."

"From this, we can learn a most powerful lesson. To become an agent of light, we must endeavor to shine the light perfectly through whatever darkness we encounter, even though we may not know for sure how to contact the actual source. If we make the effort, constantly invoking the guidance of the soul, the contact will be made."

Announcing a New Book by Carl Japikse:

LIGHT & NIGHT
The Logic of Parmenides
with an afterword by Robert R. Leichtman, M.D.

Socrates venerated Parmenides as the father of Greek philosophy. Little of his teachings remains, except as recorded by Plato in his dialogue, Parmenides, other than a poetic fragment titled “On Nature.” In this poem, Parmenides equates thinking with being, foreshadowing the famous declaration of Rene Descartes, “I think, therefore I am,” by more than two thousand years.

The poem begins with a fiery chariot ride above human thought and emotion, into the abstract heart of divine thought. There, Parmenides is instructed in the true meaning of logic—and the power of thought. The allegory of the chariot ride can be used by thinkers to learn how to rise above the finite levels of concrete thinking and begin working with abstract thought.

Once identified with Oneness, Parmenides describes the essence of logical thought as those ideas that can be traced back to the Logos, or divine thinking. He states that the sum of these thoughts are Light, whereas illogical thoughts--opinions, beliefs, speculations, emotions, and ideologies--form the Night.

Carl Japikse updates the original poem, On Nature, into modern verse, and then examines its significance in the process of learning to think logically. He includes chapters on paradoxes, irony, fractured thinking, and creativity, making Light and Night a thorough examination of the power of thought.

Light and Night is the fourth book to appear in Mr. Japikse's series, The Seeds of Thought. It sells for $17.99 plus shipping. A dozen copies can be bought for just $12 a copy, or $144, plus $8 shipping.

The entire series of The Seeds of Thought can be ordered for $150 for the set of ten books. The first three books are in print. They are The Fabled Gate, which examines the use of mythology to unlock the mind of God ($14.99); Plato’s Cave, a five-act play which retells the allegory of the cave in modern settings and terms ($15.99); and What’s the Big Idea?, an introduction to archetypal ideas and working with them ($17.99). Other books in the series will deal with strengthening the mind, stupid ideas and fatal assumptions, heroes of the mind, the loving mind, the war of ideas, and the value of the mind in solving problems.

To order copies of Light and Night, please click here, or send a check or money order to Enthea Press, 88 North Gate Station Drive, Suite 106, Marble Hill, GA 30148. Or send your order by email to lig201@lightariel.com and charge it to a major credit card. We also accept payment by PayPal.
